Neymar set for a shock return to Europe?

Neymar is now reportedly keen on a sensational return to Europe, with one club said to be on his mind.

The Brazilian hardly kicked a ball for his club Al Hilal last season after suffering a knee injury while on international duty in October 2023, ruling him out for the rest of the 2023/24 season.

He played only five games for his Saudi Arabian club before sustaining the injury, and it now remains unclear when he will be fully fit to return to the pitch again, although there has been some suggestions that he may be back in action in October.

The Brazil international's contract with Al Hilal is scheduled to end in June 2025, but it is now claimed the player is considering his options, with the hope of returning to Europe.

According to Spanish journalist Joan Fontes, Neymar wants to return to his former club FC Barcelona, whom he left for a world-record fee of €222 million (R4.4 billion) in 2017, joining Paris Saint-Germain.

It is further claimed the 32-year is willing to make the move "at any cost", but a deal would likely prove to be tricky due to Barca's poor financial situation.

Notably, Neymar enjoyed profound success at Barca between 2013 and 2017, winning nine trophies, including the UEFA Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup.

Barca's financial struggles continue, meanwhile, as they reportedly need to offload more players in order to register their new signings.

The LALIGA club is expected to imminently part ways with midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, with the German reportedly set to return to Manchester City.

Reports in Spain suggest that the Blaugrana have, so far, been unable to register new signing Dani Olmo due to their wage bill still being too high.
