Aguero takes his former club to court!

Retired Argentina legend Sergio Aguero has taken one of his former clubs to court.

The ex-striker left Manchester City – the 260 goals he scored in 390 appearances helped make him one of the side's most celebrated players in history – to join FC Barcelona in July 2021.

The 36-year-old helped the Citizens win five Premier League titles, one FA Cup, and an impressive six Carabao Cups.

While it may have been expected that he would go on to help Barca win more trophies, he played just five games for the Spanish giants before being forced into retirement in December that same year after he was diagnosed with a heart condition.

Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, financial documents from the LALIGA outfit's 2023/24 financial reports have revealed that Aguero has submitted a "conciliation notice".

In it, the player claimed that €3 million (around R57 million) was owed to him as compensation following the termination of his Blaugrana contract.

It has also been reported that a conciliation act took place between the two parties in June this year.

The matter was passed on to a social court, but Barca claim to have "no record of the claim having been distributed and admitted to a specific Court".

It is further claimed by Spanish journalist Sergi de Juan that after Aguero retired due to his heart issue, the club agreed to pay his first year out in full, being the €3 million, but their insurance company refused to do so, insisting that it was a pre-existing condition, which the former striker's camp has denied, which ultimately saw the payment going unfulfilled.

It is believed Aguero is hoping an out-of-court settlement can be reached.

Barca's troubles, however, do not end there as it is further reported that Scores Sports Management, Ltd. filed a lawsuit against the club in June, demanding €10 million (R192 million).

This was said to be in relation to intermediation in the transfer of Ousmane Dembele to Paris Saint-Germain in August last year, but the Spanish side are understood to have opposed it.

While the Ligue 1 outfit paid the winger's buyout clause, it has been suggested that the contract with his former club stated that €25 million (R482 million) would go to the player's agent, Moussa Sissoko.
