Shock Euro club 'agrees deal' with FCSB over Ngezana

A report by Azerbaijani outlet Sport Info, claims that Neftchi Baku are set to sign Ngezana from FCSB after negotiations with the parties involved went positively.

It is reported that terms have already been agreed with the South African defender, and that the transfer fee remains undisclosed although it is said to be below the €7 million (R139 million) valuation the Romanian giants have for the player.

According to Transfermarkt, the centre-back joined FCSB from Kaizer Chiefs in July 2023 in a deal worth €600 000 (R11.9 million).

The Bafana Bafana star almost instantly found his feet in Europe, making 31 appearances in his debut season and winning the first two trophies of his professional career, including the 2023/24 Romania SuperLiga title.

Amid his impressive displays, it became evident that that his stock was rising, with FCSB president Gigi Becali confirming during the season that there was interest in Ngezana from French clubs.

However, a move to France now looks unlikely, with Azerbaijan now seemingly his next destination.

Neftchi finished fifth on the 2023/24 Azerbaijan Premier League table, 26 points adrift of champions Qarabag FK.

Only three South African players have previously played in the country, namely striker Dino Ndlovu (Qarabag), defender Siyanda Xulu (Turan-Tovuz IK), and midfielder Hendrick Ekstein (FK Sabail and Sabah FK).
