Bundesliga: Bayern Munich cement top spot

Bayern Munich returned to wiinning ways in the Bundesliga after a narrow 1-0 victory over Arminia Bielefeld on Saturday evening.

This comes on the back of last week's shock defeat to the struggling FC Augsburg and against another difficult customer in Arminia, the Bavarians had top spot on the line.

As the match looked to finish goalless, former Manchester City winger Leroy Sane came good with the winner in the closing exchanges.

Borussia Dortmund bounced back from the UEFA Champions League exit with a 3-1 victory at Vfl Wolfsburg.

The Black and Yellow brigade welcomed back star man Erling Braut Haaland from injury, but it was a penalty from Emre Can that cancelled out Wout Weghorst's two minute strike.

A landmark finish from Haaland and Donyell Malen before then following the second stanza aided Marco Rose's men to solidify second spot with maximum points.

Hertha Berlin's winless streak continued as they squandered a 1-0 lead to draw 1-1 against third-bottom FC Augsburg in Berlin.

The opener followed towards halftime through Marco Ritcher, who had the host off the mark before Michael Gregoritsch entered from the bench to grind out a point.

VfL Bochum came from a goal down on their own patch to see off SC Freiburg 2-1 in a top against bottom half contest.

Freiburg threw in the first punch through Philipp Lienhart following the second half after the first spell had finished goalless.

However, the host clawed back within no time through Sebastian Polter before the winner followed from forward Milos Pantovic, as Freiburg suffered back-to-back losses.

FC Koln took Borussia Monchengladbach to the sword with a comprehensive 4-1 victory in a mid-table battle at the RheinEnergieStadion.

The win helped the host to jump from 12th into tenth spot, whilst Gladbach dropped two places from ninth to 11th position on the table.

Interestingly, the first half finished goalless and it took Dejan Ljubicic, Mark Uth, Ondrej Duda and Sebastian Andersson to put the host off the mark as Jonas Hofmann replied for Gladbach.

TSG Hoffenheim moved into fifth spot through a thrilling 6-3 victory over the newly-promoted and winless Greuther Furth.

Furth were first on the board through Jamie Leweling, but three strikes from Ilas Bebou and a double from Georginio Rutter in addition to Marco Meyerhofer's own-goal helped the visitors to victory.

The host witnessed other efforts from in particular Timothy Tillman and Branimir Hrgota brought a glimmer of hope but to no avail.
