Bundesliga match report Greuther Fürth v Bayern Munich 24 September 2021

Bayern Munich extended their lead at the top of the Bundesliga table after defeating Greuther Furth 3-1 on Friday evening.

Benjamin Pavard and defensive compatriot Dayot Upamecano were the only changes for Bayern who came off a 7-0 whitewash of VfL Bochum last time out.

It needed the record-breaking champions just ten minutes to go ahead as a cross from Alphonso Davies flicked off Maximilian Bauer before it reached Thomas Muller to stab in off the post.

From this point on Furth realised the task faced with to come in their own let alone overcome the Bayern powerhouse, who through Davies and Joshua Kimmich nearly uncovered a second.

Kimmich eventually helped himself to goal just after the half-hour mark when he curled a square-ball from Leroy Sane beyond their opposite number and into an unguarded net.

Bayern were unfortunate not to grab a third with four minutes to halftime from a corner-kick by Kimmich, but Robert Lewandowski's volley cannoned against the woodwork.

The Bavarians entered the second period on the back-foot as Pavard saw a straight red card following a professional foul on Furth danger-man Jeremy Dudziak.

This dismissal didn't bother Bayern, who were keen on adding a third a little before 60 minutes through Lewandowski but Sascha Burchert saved, whilst Sane made way for Marcel Sabitzer.

Furth aided the Bavarians to a third midway through the second half when an own-goal from Sebastian Griesbeck, who tried to clear Kimmich's free-kick, went through Burchert's legs.

With time running out, Furth pulled a response three minutes from time after Cedric Itten ran into the area to head home Timothy Tillman's cross, but Bayern emerged victors regardless.
