Borussia Dortmund missed the chance to close the gap behind leaders Bayern Munich to six points after they were held to 1-1 draw by Augsburg at WWK Arena.
Thorgan Hazard broke the deadlock for Marco Rose's charges ten minutes before the half-time break with a strike in the box after a solo run but Noah Sarenren Bazee levelled matters for Augsburg with a bullet header in the box 12 minutes before time.
Rose's men fell eight points behind Bayern in second place while Augsburg moved out of the relegation zone by a superior goal difference in 15th spot.
Dortmund will be on the road again next Sunday afternoon against Mainz while Augsburg will visit Arminia Bielefeld on Friday evening.
Bayern Munich ended the weekend eight points clear at the top of the standings after a narrow 1-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt at Deutsche Bank Park.
The Bavarians missed a number of chances in the first stanza and came the closest to breaking the deadlock in the early stages of the second stanza after Benjamin Pavard's header across the face of goal was cleared off the line by Evan Ndicka.
However, second-half substitute Leroy Sane eventually scored what proved to be the winner for Julian Nagelsmann's charges 19 minutes before time after running through behind the defence.
Bayern will resume their league schedule at home against Bayer Leverkusen next Saturday afternoon while tenth-placed Eintracht will visit Hertha Berlin.
RB Leipzig went up to fourth on the table after a late 1-0 win over Bochum at Vonovia Ruhrstadion.
The sides were unable to get a short on target in the first stanza and it took the introduction of Christopher Nkunku, Dani Olmo and Andre Silva off the bench around the hour-mark for the Red Bulls to get going.
After a late surge in front of goal, Nkunku finally got the all important goal for Domenico Tedesco's charges eight minutes before time with a strike from the edge of the box against the run of play.
The Red Bulls grabbed fourth spot with a superior goal difference over fifth-placed Freiburg and sixth-placed Hoffenheim, as the three sides are all tied on 40 points while Bochum remained in 11th spot.
Both sides will switch their focus to the DFB-Pokal quarter-finals on Wednesday evening, as RB Leipzig visit second-tier side Hannover 96 and Bochum will host Freiburg.
