Bundesliga Wrap

Champions Bayern Munich recovered from their midweek loss to Villarreal in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals with a 1-0 win over FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

Julian Nagelsmann's men started the day with a six-point gap over second-place Borussia Dortmund and unbeaten in their last six league matches, whilst Augsburg targeted a league double.

However, it didn't materialise for the visitors as the free-scoring Robert Lewandowski came good for Bayern in the closing minutes with a spot-kick following a hand used in the area.

Joshua Kimmich went close to extending the Bavarians lead, but found the crossbar and left the host to restore their nine-point gap at the summit of the league.

A first half brace from Luka Nmecha guided VfL Wolfsburg back to winning ways with a 4-0 drubbing over the relegation-threatened Arminia Bielefeld.

Wolfsburg sliced the visitors within the opening 40 minutes through Nmecha's double and consolidated matters courtesy of Maximilian Arnold and Max Kruse shortly after the break.

FC Koln pulled off a remarkable comeback from two goals down against Mainz 05 to record a 3-2 win and keep their targets for a European spot alive.

It was the travelling team that looked on course for the win with efforts either side of the half by Jonathan Burkardt and Karim Onisiwo.

Although, Koln began to come alive through Ellyes Skhiri, Dejan Ljubicic and a late finish from the services of Luca Kilian which helped them record the win in the end.

Two early goals helped Borussia Monchengladbach to record a 2-0 victory over the basement dwellers Greuther Furth on the road.

Goals in the opening quarter of the match by Marcus Thurman and a penalty from Alassane Plea were all Adi Hutter's men needed to get over the line.

Furthermore, it was Gladbach's second win in a row whilst the home team with just three wins from 29 played to date continued to find the going tough in their top flight journey.

Union Berlin continued to cement their seventh spot standing on the table with a 4-1 victory over second-bottom Hertha Berlin in the Berlin derby.

Genki Haraguchi and Grischa Promel put Union in firm control before Sheraldo Becker and Sven Michel added to the equation with Timo Baumgartl's own-goal the consolation for Hertha.
