Freiburg 0-1 Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel maintained his winning start in the Bundesliga as his side claimed a narrow 1-0 win over Freiburg.
Bayern made four changes to the side that was dumped out in the quarter-finals of the DFB-Pokal by the same side on Tuesday, as Sadio Mane, Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies and Serge Gnabry were recalled.
Tuchel's charges created plenty of chances in the early stages but Mane had a glorious one on 18 minutes after going clear on goal but his curling shot around goalkeeper Mark Flekken missed the far post by inches wide.
Freiburg were also a threat, as Ritsu Doan came close to breaking the deadlock on the stroke of half-time with a strike that came off the bottom of the post.
Matthijs de Ligt eventually broke the deadlock for the Bavarians early in the second stanza with a thunderbolt from 25-yards that took a slight deflection towards the top corner and left Flekken flat-footed.
The home side were fighting back and Bayern shot-stopper Yann Sommer made a blinding save in the last 19 minutes to keep out a volley by Roland Sallai away from the bottom corner.
Gnabry almost sealed the game for the Bavarians in stoppage time but was denied by the post, as the visitors remained two points clear at the top of the table.
Borussia Dortmund 2-1 Union Berlin
Borussia Dortmund remained two points behind leaders Bayern Munich in second place on the log after a late 2-1 win over rivals, third-placed Union Berlin at Signal Iduna Park.
Donyell Malen broke the deadlock for Dortmund just before the half-hour mark with a strike in the box after an offload from Raphael Guerreiro.
Kevin Behrens levelled matters for Union on the hour-mark after he drifted past his marker in the box and fired a powerful shot beyond goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.
However, Youssoufa Moukoko found the winner for Dortmund in the last 11 minutes from a solo-run after he rounded goalkeeper Frederik Ronnow to score into a gaping net.
Bayer Leverkusen 3-1 Eintracht Frankfurt
Bayer Leverkusen won their fifth game in a row after drubbing Eintracht Frankfurt 3-1 at Bay Arena.
Amine Adli gave Bayer an early lead and Moussa Diaby doubled their lead 11 minutes before the interval.
Djibril Sow pulled a goal back for Eintracht with 16 minutes remaining but Sardar Azmoun sealed the deal for Leverkusen deep in stoppage time.
Augsburg 1-3 Koln
Koln won for the first time in seven matches after thrashing Augsburg 3-1 at WWK Arena.
EIIyes Skhiri gave Koln the perfect start with the opener seven minutes from the off and Eric Martel gave them a two-goal cushion nine minutes later.
Ruben Vargas reduced the deficit for Augsburg on the half-hour mark but Linton Maina restored a two-goal lead for the visitors on the hour-mark
Mainz 2-2 Werder Bremen
Mainz extended their unbeaten run to eight matches after they were pegged back twice by Werder Bremen in a four-goal thriller at Mewa Arena.
After a goalless first stanza, with limited goal-mouth action, Ludovic Ajorque found the back of the net for Mainz early in the second stanza but his goal was disallowed by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for offside.
In a late flurry of goals, Ajorque eventually broke the deadlock for Mainz with five minutes left but Jens Stage equalised for Bremen two minutes later.
Nelson Weiper thought he had scored the winner for Mainz in stoppage time after making it 2-1 but Niclas Fullkrug squeezed in the leveller for Bremen at the death.
