Bayern hand Tuchel a winning start over Dortmund

Bayern Munich 4-2 Borussia Dortmund

Bayern Munich moved to the top of the Bundesliga table after defeating Borussia Dortmund 4-2 in Thomas Tuchel's first game in charge.

An own goal from Gregore Kobel gave the Bavarians a perfect start in the 13th minute.

Tuchel's charges took control from thereafter as veteran attacker Thomas Tuchel bagged a brace to make it 3-0, before Kingsley Coman added a fourth goal shortly after the break.

Emre Can and Donyell Malen gave Dortmund some hope by reducing the deficit late in the game.

However, the defending champions were able to see out the rest of the game to claim the win and move top of the table.

RB Leipzig 0-3 Mainz

RB Leipzig remained out of the UEFA Champions League places after they were thrashed 3-0 by Mainz at Red Bull Arena.

Marcus Ingvartsen got the early opener for Mainz, Ludovic Ajorque doubled their lead just before the hour-mark and Dominik Kohr put the result beyond doubt with 22 minutes remaining.

The Red Bulls remained in fifth place on the log, two points behind fourth-placed Freiburg while Mainz reduced the deficit behind Leipzig to five points in eighth place.

Schalke 0-3 Bayer Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen won their fourth game in a row after a resounding 3-0 victory over Schalke at Veltins Arena.

After a goalless first stanza, Jeremie Frimpong finally got the breakthrough for Leverkusen early in the second stanza and Florian Wirtz gave the visitors breathing space around the hour-mark.

Leverkusen jumped up to seventh on the log while Schalke remained second-from-bottom.

Union Berlin 3-0 Stuttgart

Union Berlin maintained their third spot on the log after a comprehensive 3-0 win over Stuttgart at Stadion An der Alten Forsterei.

Juan Jose Perea had a goal for Stuttgart just after the half-hour mark disallowed by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for a handball.

Sheraldo Becker finally broke the ice for Union early in the second stanza, Kevin Behrens doubled their lead on 66 minutes and an own goal by Genki Heraguchi put the game to bed for the hosts.

Freiburg 1-1 Hertha Berlin

Freiburg missed the chance to cement their UEFA Champions League spot after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Hertha Berlin at Europa-Park Stadion.

The sides could not be separated in the first stanza before Vincenzo Grifo eventually broke the deadlock for Freiburg early in the second stanza.

However, Jessic Ngankam levelled matters for Freiburg 12 minutes before time.

Freiburg remained in fourth spot on the log while Hertha were still stuck in the relegation zone.

Wolfsburg 2-2 Augsburg

Wolfsburg came back from two goals down to salvage a draw in a four-goal thriller against Augsburg at Volkswagen Arena.

Augsburg went ahead within two minutes from the first whistle thanks to an own goal by Maximilian Arnold.

Arnold had a golden chance to make amends from the penalty spot for Wolfsburg midway through the first stanza but he blazed his spot-kick over the crossbar.

Mergim Berish went on to give Augsburg a two-goal cushion just after the half-hour mark.

However, Wolfsburg had a late surge as Luca Waldschmidt reduced the deficit five minutes before time and Felix Nmecha snatched the equaliser deep in added time.
