Bayern open six-point lead with Schalke victory

Schalke 0-2 Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich extended their lead at the top of the  Bundesliga standings to six points after a 2-0 win over Schalke at Veltins Arena.

Bayern made two changes from their rampant win against Werder Bremen, as Leroy Sane and Kingsley Coman were both recalled, with Sadio Mane missing due to injury.

The Bavarians had a slow start and only got close to scoring on the half-hour mark after Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting guided a header off the post at the near post from a corner by Joshua Kimmich.

Serge Gnabry eventually broke the deadlock for Julian Nagelsmann's charges seven minutes before the interval with a cracking shot in the box after a back-heel pass by Jamal Musiala sent him through on goal.

Choupo-Moting gave Bayern breathing space early in the second stanza with a composed finish in the box against his former side after he was teed up by Musiala through on goal.

Werder Bremen 1-2 RB Leipzig

RB Leipzig secured their fourth consecutive victory after edging Werder Bremen 2-1 at Weserstadion.

Andre Silva gave Leipzig an early with a low strike into the bottom corner after he got to the end of a swift counter-attack.

Christian Gross levelled matters for Bremen early in the second stanza with a deflected strike after getting a return pass in the box.

However, Xaver Schlager put the Red Bulls ahead once more with 19 minutes to go with a composed finish in the box.

Hoffenheim 1-2 Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg extended their winning streak to four matches after a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Hoffenheim at PreZero Arena.

Christoph Baumgartner broke the deadlock for Hoffenheim shortly before the interval but Wolfsburg restored parity on the stroke of half-time thanks to an own goal by Ozan Kobak.

Ridle Baku snatched what proved to be the winner for the Wolves early in the second stanza.

Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 Stuttgart

Bayer Leverkusen continued their resurgence under manager Xabi Alonso with a third consecutive win after beating Stuttgart 2-0 at Bay Arena.

Moussa Diaby broke the deadlock for Leverkusen on the half-hour mark and Jonathan Tah sealed the deal with eight minutes to go.

Hertha Berlin 2-0 Koln

Hertha Berlin will spend the World Cup break out of the relegation zone after beating Koln 2-0 at Olympiastadion.

Wilfried Kanga put Hertha ahead in the first nine minutes and Marco Richter secured the three points nine minutes into the second stanza.

Augsburg 0-1 Bochum

Bochum boosted their survival hopes with back-to-back wins after edging Augsburg 1-0 at WWK Arena.

After a goalless first stanza, Christopher Antwi-Adjei eventually broke the deadlock for Bochum just before the hour-mark.

Mergim Berisha had a golden chance to equalise for Augsburg from the penalty spot but his looping shot clipped the top of the crossbar and went over.
