Erling Haaland to earn more than Cristiano Ronaldo?

With Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland's wage demands ahead of a potential move having reportedly been revealed, he could be set to earn more than Cristiano Ronaldo does at Manchester United.

A number of Europe's biggest clubs are expected to target the young striker in June 2022, when his reported €75 million (R1.2 billion) release clause will kick in. This is understood to be less than half the asking price BVB demanded from Chelsea for Haaland in the most recent transfer window.

However, there may be a huge stumbling block for those teams who are courting the 21-year-old. According to ESPN, Haaland's camp is now asking for wages in the region of £500 000 (R10 million) a week.

This would take him above Ronaldo as one of the highest-paid footballers in the world, with the Red Devils attacker earning £480 000 (R9.6 million) a week at Old Trafford, per Goal.

It is further claimed that United, European champions Chelsea and Real Madrid are all in the hunt for the striker, although any deal for him will likely depend on how Ronaldo, Romelu Lukaku and Karim Benzema, respectively, perform for their teams in the next eight months.

Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are also believed to be in the race for Haaland's signature, with the forward having so far scored an incredible 70 goals and created 19 assists in just 69 matches for Dortmund since joining the club in January 2020.
