Newcastle send Man City crashing out of Carabao Cup

Newcastle United 1-0 Manchester City

Manchester City became the first big casualty of this season's Carabao Cup losing 1-0 to Newcastle United on Wednesday evening.

The Citizens, who have made a perfect start in the Premier League, featured a few changes with some players on the fringes handed a run out.

Erling Haaland was named on the bench, along with Phil Foden, Kyle Walker, Ruben Dias and Ederson.

There were no goals in the first half, but the Magpies got what would prove to be the winner on 53 minutes as Alexander Isak found the back of the net from a nice bit of play.

Brentford 0-1 Arsenal

Arsenal advanced to the next round of the cup with a hard-fought 1-0 win over a tricky Brentford outfit at the G-tech Community Stadium.

Coach Mikel Arteta rang the changes from the North London derby, as Jorginho, Emile Smith-Rowe, Aaron Ramsdale, Reiss Nelson and Kai Havertz were drafted into the line-up.

The Gunners were ahead in the opening ten minutes through a well-taken finish by Reiss Nelson after the Bees failed to clear their lines at the back.

Chelsea 1-0 Brighton Hove Albion

Chelsea got back to winning ways following a disappointing run of results with a 1-0 victory over Brighton Hove Albion.

It was goalless in the first half despite the promising moments the two sides enjoyed in the latter third, as the Blues looked to end a barren run of form in all competitions.

The Blues got the winner in the opening five minutes of the second after striker Nicolas Jackson popped to finish off an assist by Moses Caicedo.

Liverpool 3-1 Leicester City

Liverpool managed to overturn a first half deficit to overcome the boys from the Championship Leicester City 3-1 at Anfield.

The Foxes raced to the lead on three minutes courtesy of Kasey McAteer and managed to go to the break with the lead intact.

Liverpool rallied back after halftime and levelled through Coady Gakpo three minutes after the restart.

Dominik Szoboslai put the home side ahead with a wonderful strike from distance that sailed into the top corner, before Diogo Jota sealed the win in the closing minutes with a neat flick in the box.
