Argentina registered their first win in the Copa America on Friday with a 1-0 win over Uruguay to head to the top of Group B.
Surprised names in Argentina's line-up saw Nahuel Molina handed a start alongside Christian Romero, whilst Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez picked out Uruguay's eleven.
The first threat in anger came from the Argentines after four minutes courtesy of a low left-footed shot from outside the box by Marcus Acuna, which failed to find target.
All this changed after seven minutes when Guido Rodriguez was at the right place and the right time to nod a cross from a corner-kick by Lionel Messsi past goalkeeper Fernando Muslera.
Messi was on the end of another move for the Albiceleste soon before the half-hour mark as he played a pass to Molina to have a crack in the area, but it was parried.
Uruguay looked to push forward for the equaliser three minutes following halftime with a left-footed shot from outside the area by Rodrigo Bentancur, but he narrowly missed target.
The Juventus man was withdrawn at the start of the second half, with Nahitan Nandez introduced shortly after Lautaro Martinez went close to double Argentina's lead with a low shot.
With the tempo evenly matched in the midway phase, Uruguay were presented an opportunity to draw level through Suarez but he directed Matias Vecino's cross over target.
Argentina finished the match the strongest with two clear chances from first outside the area by Messi and a shot from close-range by Angel Di Maria, but neither capitalised.
That mattered not as the Albiceleste clinged onto the result and registered their first win in Group B after playing to a draw in their tournament against Chile last weekend.
