Vini Junior inspires Brazil Copa America thrashing

Vinicius Junior netted twice to inspire Brazil to their first win at the Copa America group stages with a 4-1 drubbing over Paraguay.

Just two alterations were made by Brazil on the back of the goalless draw with Costa Rica, as Guilherme Wendell came in for Wendell before Savio replaced FC Barcelona man Raphinha.

Brazil, who were frustrated in the tournament opener, should've been ahead in the opening quarter as Andres Cuba gave away a spot-kick after a hand-ball but Lucas Paqueta scuffed.

The West Ham United man did come good following the missed effort and delivered a through pass for Vinicius Junior to enter the box and finished with ease.

It opened up the floodgates where Savio latched timeously to a loose pass off Rodrigo Morinigo's spill following Rodrygo's shot and tapped in comfortably.

Vinicius reaped further misery on the stroke of halftime when he managed to nestle in a loose pass off uncertain piece of defending by the Paraguayans.

Paraguay did get a lifeline two minutes past the interval and saw Omar Alderete bring a smart delivery outside the area under control and volleyed in superbly.

No comeback showed though as the Selecao restored the three-goal advantage when Paqueta ensured a fine day's work through a finish from the spot following a hand-ball.

The Selecao revived the playing personnel before the closing minutes, where Raphinha came in for Savio before Douglas Luiz stepped on for Bruno Guimaraes.

Paraguay's woes were compounded nine minutes to fulltime as a rough challenge on Luiz by Cuba saw the latter dismissed instantly.

The Selecao stormed to a comprehensive victory to get their tournament off the mark, with Paraguay all but ousted after successive losses.
