Arsenal 'submit' R523m bid for ex-Real striker

English giants Arsenal have now reportedly submitted a R523 million bid for a former Real Madrid striker in the hopes of reigniting their charge for the Premier League title.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is said to be on the prowl for a new striker in the January transfer window as their current front-line are considered by some to be misfiring with Gabriel Jesus, Eddie Nketiah and Kai Havertz amassing just 12 league goals between them.

The North London side have slipped to fourth place on the table after winning just one of their last five games, losing three and drawing one.

According to The Sun, Ivan Toney is their preferred target, but Brentford are believed to be reluctant to let the forward, who is set to return from an eight-month gambling ban next week, leave the club.

Arsenal have now reportedly turned their attention to Los Blancos' academy graduate Borja Mayoral who currently plies his trade at Getafe, alongside loanee Mason Greenwood.

Mayoral is said to be considered a potential solution to the Gunners' struggles in front of goal as he has netted 12 goals in 19 LALIGA appearances so far this season, helping his side to eighth place on the table.

It is understood that the Gunners tabled a £22 million (around R523 million) bid for the 26-year-old. However, reports indicate that Geta Azulones rejected the offer, slapping a price tag of £39 million (R928 million) onto the striker.
