BREAKING: Felix joins English giants

Sought-after Portugal and Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix's move to one of the Premier League's biggest clubs has now been confirmed.

The A Selecao playmaker has joined Chelsea on a six-month loan deal for the remainder of the 2022/23 season.

"Chelsea is one of the great teams in the world and I hope to help the team reach their objectives, so I am very, very happy to be here and very excited to play at Stamford Bridge," Felix said, per the club's official website.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Blues will cover the 23-year-old's full salary in a deal worth €11 million (R200 million), while there is also no option to buy.

The former Benfica talent becomes Graham Potter's fourth acquisition of the January transfer window, following the recent arrivals of Ivorian striker David Datro Fofana from Molde, Brazilian Andrey Santos from Vasco da Gama, and French defender Benoit Badiashile from AS Monaco.

After enduring a difficult start to the 2022/23 LaLiga season, which saw him fall out of favour under Atletico boss Diego Simeone, Felix impressed at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, registering three goal involvements in four games at the tournament.

It is thought that his relationship with the Rojiblancos manager remains shaky partly due to the Argentine tactician's pragmatic style of play, with many believing this has prevented the 2019 Golden Boy from living up to expectations at the Metropolitano Stadium following his club-record €127.2 million (R2.3 billion) arrival from Benfica in 2019.

He also signed an extension on his Atletico deal, until June 2027, before making the switch to London.
