Chelsea 'in talks' to sign Kante replacement

Chelsea are reportedly in talks to sign a replacement for N'Golo Kante, who has been tipped to move to Saudi Arabia.

Kante is reportedly close to securing a move to a Saudi Pro League outfit Al Ittihad, who also unveiled Ballon d'Or winner Karim Benzema.

However, the Blues have now turned their attention to Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia as an option for Mauricio Pochettino next season.

Lavia was one of the Saints' standout performers despite their relegation to Championship, as he also earned call-ups to the Belgian senior national side.

According to Football London, the Blues are among the teams that have been impressed with the midfielder's showings and have opened talks with the Saints over transfer.

Manchester City do have a reported buy-back clause inserted in Lavia's contract, but that only becomes active in 2024 which could allow suitors to take advantage.

The report adds that any team looking to secure Lavia's services would need to splash out £50million for the transfer fee.

The 19-year-old made 34 appearances for the Saints last season, including 29 in the Premier League and also helped the club reach the Carabao Cup semi-finals.
