EPL giants 'open talks' with PSG for Mbappe

A Premier League giant has now reportedly initiated discussions with Paris Saint-Germain over the transfer of Kylian Mbappe.

According to the Daily Record, Chelsea are actively looking to secure the Frenchman's services in a cash-plus-player deal.

Todd Boehly, co-owner of the Blues, is believed to have had direct contact with PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi in an attempt to orchestrate a blockbuster deal that would see the Bondy native becoming the English side's latest attacking signing.

The record Ligue 1 winners have shown a willingness to offload the 24-year-old after they accepted a world-record €300 million (R5.8 billion) offer from Saudi Pro League giants Al Hilal for his signature. However, the prolific winger refused to enter into negotiations with the Middle Eastern side.

Les Parisiens have insisted they will not lose their talisman as a free agent when his contract runs out in 2024, so there is a possibility PSG will accept an offer from Chelsea.

The same report claims that, with the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner signing a contract extension worth €150 million (R2.9 billion) last year, the six-time Premier League champions will likely have to offer a figure in that region to land his signature.

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino worked with Mbappe during his one-season spell at the Parc des Princes, and given his recent comments about a necessity for more outgoings, the west Londoners could offer a number of players in part-exchange to secure Mbappe's services, with Romelu Lukaku, Raheem Sterling and Hakim Ziyech among the names said to be set to be offered.

While the two-time European champions may have rumoured interest in signing PSG's all-time top goalscorer, many believe Real Madrid remain the team in pole position to sign the superstar next.
