Haaland 'gets away' with controversial action against Arsenal

Manchester City star Erling Haaland has reportedly avoided punishment following his controversial action just before the final whistle against Arsenal.

City and the Gunners played out to a thrilling 2-2 draw at the Etihad stadium on Sunday, with the home team snatching a late equaliser to avoid defeat against a 10-man Arsenal after Leandro Trossard's red card late in the first half.

Haaland was in the thick of things throughout, and opened the scoring in the ninth minute of the match to mark his 100th goal in only his 105th appearance for City.

The Norwegian appeared to be in a fiery mood on the day as he clashed with midfielder Thomas Partey immediately after the kick-off following's City's late equaliser, scored by John Stones in the 98th minute.

This led to a number of Arsenal players surrounding Haaland in a heated confrontation.

However, just moments before the aforementioned incident, the striker was seen throwing a ball at the back of Gabriel Magalhaes' head after Stones scored the equaliser.

This behaviour caused a stir online as some felt that his conduct warranted at least a yellow card, with some believing retrospective action could follow.

However, it is reported that Haaland will not face any action for his behaviour as the matter was cleared by the match VAR, who deemed it unpunishable, according to journalist Jack Gaughan.

Speaking on Match of the Day 2, pundit and former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer defended Haaland's actions, arguing that it was harmless.

"I don't think there was any harm in it," the former England captain insisted.

"It was a really difficult game for the referee, but in terms of the aggression and the one v one battles, it was a fascinating game."

Haaland is now the seventh-highest goalscorer in City's history with his century of strikes, but remains some way off Sergio Aguero's club record tally of 260 strikes for the English giants.
