'Legend Firmino formed part of PL's best-ever attacking trio'

A former Premier League star says Roberto Firmino will go down as a Liverpool legend amid reports that he is set to leave the club.

Reports surfaced on Friday that the Brazilian striker will be leaving the club at the end of the season when his contract expires.

Firmino joined Liverpool from Hoffenheom in 2015 and formed a deadly trio with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, as the club won the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup.

Former Newcastle United and Crystal Palace midfielder Darren Ambrose says Firmino was the key to Liverpool's star-studded attack.

"Does he go down as a Liverpool legend? Absolutely, 100 per cent!

"For a player who has won that many trophies, scored that many goals [107] and has been very self-sacrificial for the team.

"He gave up a part of his game to help Mane and Salah. I think he was the key.

"It's the end of an era at Liverpool. It was the end of an era when Mane left, really, but it's a real end of an era now because Firmino is leaving too.

"I think it's a huge loss. He's been outstanding for the club.

"There are three levels, I think – icon, legend and cult hero – and Firmino, for me, is a definite legend at Liverpool."

Ambrose also feels the trio of Firmino, Salah and Mane is the best the Premier League has ever seen.

"They became a trio in 2017/18 and combined for an incredible 338 goals and 139 assists in their time together, and 66 per cent of those assists were to each other!,"

"That front three, arguably the best front three the Premier League has ever seen!"
