'Nobody is afraid of Van Dijk anymore'

A former Arsenal star claims that players aren't scared of Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk anymore.

The Dutch defender has come in for his fair share of criticism this season after the Red's poor start in the Premier League, which has seen the club claim just two wins from eight matches.

The Reds will come up against rivals Manchester City on Sunday and former Arsenal star Paul Merson feels there is now way Jurgen Klopp's men get the win.

"The Manchester City game is massive for Liverpool, they are already 14 points behind Arsenal. Arsenal play Leeds and you expect them to win and if Liverpool lose to City, they're 17 points behind. Where do you get that from?

"It's mission impossible because you're not just chasing one team. It gets so complicated. But I just don't see how Liverpool stop City. They're not carrying that fear at the moment.

"Nobody is scared of Virgil van Dijk anymore. He used to have that fear factor, nobody would want to dribble at him. They would cross the ball when they should have taken him on.

"City are ruthless and they will punish any sort of hesitation at the back. I think Pep Guardiola's men will win 3-1."
