Guardiola sends 'angry' message to Man City star

Pep Guardiola has sent an "angry" message to a Manchester City star said to be in danger of losing his place in the starting line-up.

Jeremy Doku, who replaced Jack Grealish in the starting XI for the Citizens' clash with Bournemouth on Saturday, put in a Man of the Match display, contributing one goal and four assists to help his side to a 6-1 victory over the Cherries.

The Belgian's electrifying performance is believed to have given Guardiola a selection dilemma heading into his team's UEFA Champions League encounter against SC Young Boys on Tuesday night.

With both players vying for a spot on the left flank, the Spanish tactician has encouraged Grealish to let the competition serve as a source of motivation.

"I want Jack angry and I want him to play well," Guardiola said, per the Daily Mirror.

"This is the way to maintain consistency at that level. Jack is back. The way he played at Old Trafford, to give us more composure in that position, was decisive for us. We need everyone.

"There are a lot of games to come and everyone has to compete. And, when they don't play, train better the next day, because the moment is coming and when you are mentally there in the head, you will perform well and we will win games."

The comprehensive victory over Bournemouth also saw a shuffle in the side's backline, with both Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol missing out.

"Ruben is so important, Josko didn't play today. And maybe Josko and Ruben are going to play the next game and they have to be there," the City boss added.

"Everyone is incredibly involved. And they compete with each other."
