Chelsea have confirmed that they have secured the Italian tactician on a five-year contract, with an option to extend it by another year.
It has also been suggested that the five-time Premier League champions paid Leicester City a compensation fee of £10 million (about R239 million) to secure his services.
Pep Guardiola's former Manchester City assistant manager faced competition from Thomas Frank, Roberto De Zerbi and Kieran McKenna for the position, but edged them to secure the role.
Maresca expressed excitement at his new challenge, and praised the crop of players he will work with when he officially steps into the role on 1 July.
"To join Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world, is a dream for any coach. It is why I am so excited by this opportunity," the newly-appointed Blues boss said.
"I look forward to working with a very talented group of players and staff to develop a team that continues the club's tradition of success and makes our fans proud."
The London side's ownership group, meanwhile, have also expressed their pleasure with the appointment, sharing how confident they feel about the future under Maresca.
"We are thrilled to welcome Enzo into the Chelsea family. We look forward to supporting him and the rest of the sporting team in fulfilling their potential and our expectations over the years to come," they said in the same statement.
"He is a highly gifted coach and leader that we are confident can help fulfil our vision and competitive goals for the Club."
