BREAKING: Liverpool confirm captain's exit for big-money Saudi deal

It has now been confirmed that Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has sealed a big-money move to Saudi Arabia.

The England international is now an Al Ettifaq player, joining his former Reds teammate and now manager Steven Gerrard at a reported transfer fee of £12 million (R271 million).

The player himself announced his exit from the Reds via social media on Wednesday night, and the clubs involved have now confirmed his next destination.

"In the moment, it is absolutely fine but it was already ongoing for a while now, so we had time to adapt to it and get used to it," Reds boss Jurgen Klopp told the club's official website when asked how it feels to say goodbye to the skipper.

"It is football, it is life, it is normal, these kind of things happen. Monday when we arrived back in Liverpool, Hendo was waiting for us to say goodbye properly to the team and to the coaching staff as well, so that was a really nice gesture a really nice thing to do.

"I know it was a really, really tough decision for Hendo and I was around or with him all the way. It's sad, absolutely strange, because he is the only captain I had here at Liverpool, but I think it is exciting for him as well.

"We will miss him, without a shadow of a doubt, that's clear as a man and as a player. But, as I said, that's football."

After 12 years at Anfield and lifting seven major trophies, the 33-year-old has penned a three-year deal with the Saudi Pro League team.

He will now reportedly earn massive wages of close to £700 000 (R15.8 million) a week, understood to be a huge increase on his earnings at the Reds.

Henderson leaves Liverpool having made 492 appearances for the Reds, and contributed to 94 goals.
