De Bruyne calls out FIFA over football schedule

Manchester City star Kevin de Bruyne has accused FIFA and UEFA for only caring about money after 'adding more matches' to the calendar.

FIFA have decided to rebrand the Club World Cup, moving to a 32-team tournament which gets underway in June next year.

Footballer have spoken out about the increase in matches in the last year, especially with an international break taking place almost every month.

De Bruyne feels the football governing bodies are prioritising money over the player's health.

"The real problem will emerge after the Club World Cup," De Bruyne told reporters, as per Goal.

"We know there will be only three weeks between the Club World Cup final and the first Premier League match.

"So, we have three weeks to rest and prepare for another 80 matches. Maybe this year things will be OK, but next year could be problematic.

"The Professional Footballers' Association in England and other player associations have tried to find solutions. The issue is that UEFA and FIFA keep adding extra matches, and we can raise concerns, but no solutions have been found.

"It seems that money speaks louder than the players."
