Klopp reacts to huge Salah 'offer' & Saudis' splurging

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has now responded to reports linking Mohamed Salah with a big-money move to Saudi Arabia, and had his say on the Middle East nation's transfer business too.

The Reds recently lost two key members of their squad to clubs in Saudi Arabia, with former captain Jordan Henderson and Brazilian midfielder Fabinho having joined Al Ettifaq and Al Ittihad, respectively.

Moreover, Roberto Firmino is an Al Ahli player after departing Anfield as a free agent in June, while Sadio Mane has made the switch to Al Nassr.

With Ettifaq boss Steven Gerrard also forming part of the growing Liverpool contingent in the Saudi Pro League, recent reports suggested that Salah could be next in line for a move to the Gulf state.

On Thursday, beIN Sports reported that the Egypt international had agreed to a blockbuster move to Al Ittihad that would see him earn close to what Cristiano Ronaldo is getting at Al Nassr, but added that Liverpool had not accepted the offer, declaring that the player is not for sale.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of the Reds' Premier League clash away at Newcastle United this weekend, Klopp reacted to the reports linking his talisman with a lucrative switch to the SPL.

"It's a bit difficult to talk about media stories because there is nothing to talk about," the 56-year-old said, according to the Metro.

"We don't have an offer, he's a Liverpool player.

"To all the things we do he is essential, he was and will be, there is nothing there. If there was something, the answer would be 'no'.

"In my life I think about a problem when I have it. There's nothing at the moment. When something comes up, then I can think about it.

After confirming that Salah would be "100%" staying on Merseyside this season, the German was then asked about the threat Premier League clubs face from the infinite wealth of Saudi Arabia's flagship teams.

The tactician responded: "It's not cool for us, that's clear. If we want a player from Wigan, say, we go there and we pay the price.

"Same in the Bundesliga, etc. Now there's a next level and it's not great, but this is part of the business. I'm not sure you can change that.

"What makes it impossible to deal with is our transfer window closes and they stay open. Then we play until January 1 and this is our squad, we have that problem.

"I remember something like this in Russia long time ago. That was not completely crazy money. It's new and challenging

"I am pretty sure FIFA could [change their transfer deadline] like this (clicks finger), but I am not sure they want to."
