Kompany gives verdict on Foster's goal harshly disallowed by VAR

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany has given his verdict on Lyle Foster's goal being disallowed by the video assistant referee (VAR) against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Monday night.

The two sides played out to a 1-1 draw at City Ground, with the result securing Burnley their first point of the season in four Premier League games.

Attacking midfielder Zeki Amdouni gave the Clarets the lead in the 41st minute, but Forest equalised 20 minutes later courtesy of a Callum Hudson-Odoi strike.

In the 78th minute, Foster thought he had scored the winner for his side when he put one past Tricky Trees goalkeeper Matt Turner, but the goal would later be overturned after VAR adjudged that the ball was handled in the build-up to the strike, which many feel was a harsh call.

Foster was later sent off as VAR intervened again, with the player receiving a straight red card for violent conduct after he elbowed Ryan Yates in the ribs during an off-the-ball incident.

Speaking after the match, Burnley manager Kompany shared his thoughts on  the Bafana Bafana star's goal, which would have been his third of the season, being disallowed by VAR.

"I have a footballing brain and business degree brain, but when it comes to rules and regulations of the law, there's not much I can say, to be honest," the Belgian tactician told his club's official website.

"I have made the decision to understand that they (VAR) know what they are doing, and I don't want to go into it too much as it's done now and that's it."

Kompany also admitted that the match could have been won by either side.

"We have to fight for every point in this league and I thought tonight we really did that," he added.

"It was a pretty even match and depending on which side of the fence you are sat on, there's a debate on which side deserved the three points.

"Our team has made so much progress already, and there's so much more to come from these players and you could see that tonight.

"The work is on the training ground and the work will continue, you can see it every day. Hopefully by Saturday we have made more improvements once again."
