Liverpool ‘opens talks’ with Real Madrid star

Liverpool have reportedly opened talks with a Real Madrid star over a potential transfer to Anfield.

New Liverpool boss Arne Slot has only made two signings since joining the club on 1 June 2024.

Italy international Federico Chiesa and Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili became the Dutchman's first two transfers, although the latter was allowed to remain on a season-long loan at the club he was signed from, Valencia.

Notably, however, the English giants also made a serious attempt to sign a defensive midfielder at the start of the campaign, but their efforts to acquire Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad were unsuccessful.

It was reported that Liverpool triggered the Spain international's £51 million (R957.1 million) release clause in August, but things would quickly take a sharp turn, as the 25-year-old changed his mind about joining the club, instead choosing to stay at Sociedad.

Liverpool director Richard Hughes was reportedly left angry by the snub, as he believed that Zubimendi had given an unequivocal agreement to join the Merseysiders.

The Reds' hopes of signing a defensive midfielder appear to still exist, with it now claimed that they are in pursuit of a deep-lying playmaker.

According to French journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Liverpool have made contact with Real Madrid star Aurelien Tchouameni's entourage over a potential move to the club.

Slot's side are said to be long-time admirers of the France star, as they also showed interest in him before he joined Real.

Now, Liverpool still view the player as the ideal profile, and it is reported that the LALIGA giants have made the 24-year-old available for possible suitors.

It is further claimed that Real are looking to sell the player for a fee of at least €60 million (R1.1 billion), while the Reds have reportedly lined up Enzo Fernandez as their backup option.
