With OGC Nice's Khephren Thuram and Romeo Lavia of Southampton, among others, reportedly being courted by the Merseyside club in this window, it now appears that the Reds have landed, perhaps surprisingly, their newest player.
According to The Athletic, Jurgen Klopp's team have reached an agreement to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton Hove Albion for a British record fee of £110 million (R2.6 billion).
The report claims that the Seagulls effectively held an auction on Thursday until midnight, with the Merseysiders raising the highest bid, beating the Ecuadorian's long-term admirers Chelsea, who are said to have fallen short with their £100 million (R2.3 billion) offer.
Personal terms have not yet been reached but no hiccups are expected and medical tests have been scheduled for later on Friday.
Caicedo became one of the most sought-after deep-lying playmakers in Europe after shining in the 2022/23 campaign for the Seagulls, as well as for Ecuador at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
