Luton Town secured promotion to the Premier League after overcoming Coventry City on penalties in the play-off final at Wembley Stadium.
Coventry highlighted to their line-up in the last match so did Luton as both sides chased glory and ultimately promotion to the top-flight of English football.
Buoyed by a lively atmosphere, the match endured a very energetic start and Luton very nearly got ahead from an effort by Nathan Jones but the defence effectively their lines.
Luton, though, were called to make a substitution over 12 minutes played after a knock saw Tom Lockyer stretchered off the field and Reece Burke brought on from the dugout.
The pressured start from Luton continued well around the midway point of the first half and hit the front when Jordan Clark latched on a smart delivery and riffled in the net.
In the second half, Coventry continued to go on the front-foot and unsettle Luton through a host of openings from virtually all fronts but again lacked the decisiveness up top.
On the other, Luton were eager to make full use of their ascendancy in as far as seeing off the contest though played on the break and thus limited their offensive momentum.
Coventry maintained confidence up top around the closing period of the match and were level on terms after Gustavo Hamer got a yard of space in the area and guided in a well-weighted cutback.
Midfielder Matt Godden very nearly came close to put City in the lead in the final minutes with an angled shot outside the area, but he went wide and thus a saw period of extra-time.
Both teams still went at each other at the start of extra-time though continued to find the going tough in the last third, as the game went on to a penalty shoot-out, where Luton held their nerve to triumph 6-5 and book their spot in next season's Premier League.
