The Portuguese fullback lost his prominence at the Citizens in early 2023, and was subsequently loaned out to Bayern Munich for the remainder of the 2022/23 season.

He went out on loan again last season, spending the duration of the 2023/24 campaign with FC Barcelona, but it now seems he is finally poised to bid farewell to the Etihad Stadium on a permanent basis after the Mancunian club accepted the Blue Wave's bid of €25 million (R494 million) for his services.

The 30-year-old is expected to make a final decision on his contract with the Saudi Pro League champions imminently as they are believed to have offered him a lucrative contract that will see him being paid €15 million (R296 million) per season should he accept the move to Riyadh.

According to Portuguese publication A Bola, Cancelo will complete the formalities of the personal terms in Paris and then make his way to the oil-rich kingdom from there.

Should the transfer be completed will follow in the footsteps of former teammates such as Aymeric Laporte and Riyad Mahrez who have made their way to the Saudi top flight from the home of the 2022/23 treble winners.
