Man City star slams Man Utd's controversial goal

Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji took aim the referee for Manchester United's controversial equaliser at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils rallied from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over the defending Premier League champions, although Bruno Fernandes' equaliser was the main talking point.

Marcus Rashford appeared to be in offside position before Fernandes slotted home, with the referee deeming the striker was not interfering with play.

Akanji was behind Rashford when the goal was scored and feels the goal should have been disallowed.

"Rashford is chasing the ball for 30 metres in an offside position. I think he is like two or three metres in front of me," Akanji said after the game, as per Daily Mail.

"I claim offside because I see him in the position and he is chasing the ball clearly until the last second. For me it is clear interference.'

"The ref didn't say anything to me. I spoke to the linesman and he said "did Rashford touch the ball?" I said "no, but's chasing it for a very long time and he tries to play it until the last second."

"For me in that situation the referee has to at least look at it, but they say it wasn't like this, probably the pressure got to him as well, and that's why he decided to let it go."

City manager Pep Guardiola echoed Akanji's sentiments about the controversial goal.

"Rashford was offside, Bruno Fernandes no. Whether Rashford distracts or not our keeper and our central defenders, I don't know, the rules are the rules," he added.
