Man City 'identify' De Bruyne replacement

Manchester City have now reportedly identified a replacement for Kevin De Bruyne, who recently sustained a long-term injury.

The Citizens claimed their first-ever UEFA Super Cup title on Wednesday night, when they beat reigning UEFA Europa League champions Sevilla 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the regulatory 90 minutes.

While their triumph may have been sweet, the club is still reeling from the loss of their captain De Bruyne, who sustained a thigh injury during the side's opening 2023/24 Premier League game against Burnley last Friday, with some reports suggesting surgery may be required too.

As such, the Citizens are believed to be looking for a replacement for the Belgian before the transfer window closes at the end of this month.

According to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, City have identified RB Leipzig star Dani Olmo as their dream replacement for the 32-year-old.

The Italian reporter also claims that the German club could demand between £70 million (R1.7 million) and £85 million (R2 billion) for the player should the Premier League giants push to sign him in this window.

Olmo, who is also Catalan like Pep Guardiola, penned a new deal at Leipzig in June that is set to run until 2027, with the reported release clause in it of £57 million (R1.3 billion) only coming into effect at the end of this campaign.

City are understood to also be pursuing West Ham United star Lucas Paqueta and Rennes winger Jeremy Doku, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reporting that a new approach is imminent for the Brazilian, while an official bid is being prepared for the latter.
