Pep: I have ridiculous ideas for Man Utd match

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed he is planning something "ridiculous" for their upcoming clash against Manchester United.

The second Manchester derby this season is taking place on Saturday, with both teams heading into the much-anticipated clash in good form.

Since their previous match in October, which saw the Citizens dismantle the Red Devils by a scoreline of 6-3, United have lost just once in 18 matches across all competitions.

City have tasted defeat twice in the same period, but currently have a four-point lead over their neighbours on the Premier League table.

In a pre-match press conference ahead of City's Carabao Cup quarter-final tie against Southampton on Wednesday night, Guardiola revealed that he has been brainstorming ideas for their clash against the Red Devils on the weekend, suggesting something unexpected might be in store.

"I would like to arrive against United with the average of minutes in the legs of the players quite similar because I have a few ideas, thoughts, ridiculous ones against United," the Spanish manager said, per ESPN.

"I didn't watch the last [United] games.

"I have to see the way they play at home [against Charlton on Tuesday] and if they change something. I have to still review it.

"That is why I don't have a clear line-up against United."

Guardiola has taken the Red Devils by surprise before, an example being when he benched both strikers Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus and played with a false nine in a 3-1 win over their neighbours in the first leg of the 2019/20 Carabao Cup semi-final.
