The defender was charged with sexual assault in July 2021 and subsequently suspended by the club pending the case.
Earlier this year, he was found not guilty of sexual offences against several women, with a jury at the Chester Crown Court were unable to reach verdicts on two other charges.
This resulted in a retrial and in July, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner was found not guilty by a jury on the remaining two charges.
However, Mendy's contract at the Etihad had expired at the end of June and the player's representatives are now claiming "unauthorised deductions" from his wages were made after his arrest.
The 29-year-old, who has since joined Lorient FC in France, is now seeking millions of pounds in payments up until contract expired in June.
According to Sky Sports, a statement from the player's camp reads: "Nick De Marco KC (instructed by Laffer Abogados (Madrid)) is acting for the former Manchester City player Benjamin Mendy in a multi-million-pound claim for unauthorised deductions from wages.
"Manchester City FC failed to pay Mr Mendy any wages at all from September 2021, following Mr Mendy being charged with various offence all of which he was subsequently acquitted of, until the end of his contract in June 2023. The claim will come before an Employment Tribunal."
The BBC further suggests that Mendy is looking to recoup lost earnings believed to be between £9 million (R206 million) and £10 million (R229 million) gross.
The left-back joined the Manchester outfit in 2017 from AS Monaco in a deal worth £52 million (R1.1 billion), which made him the most expensive defender ever at the time.
