Man City tipped to sign Liverpool target

Manchester City have been tipped to sign a Spain star, who rejected a move to Liverpool in the last transfer window.

The Citizens are expected to be without Ballon d'Or winner Rodri for the remainder of the season due to injury.

Pep Guardiola does not posses a direct replacement for the Spaniard, with Mateo Kovavic and Ilkay Gundogan used in that role.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes the Premier League champions could make a move for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.

Zubimendi turned down a move to Liverpool in the recent transfer window after hellping Spain win the 2024 European Championship.

"The void left by Rodri means City must consider the transfer market in January," Carragher wrote in his column for the Telegraph.

"I wonder whether they will try to succeed where Liverpool failed and lure Martín Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, the player whom top European scouts evidently feel is the best No 6 available beyond the Champions League clubs.

"Zubimendi is Rodri's deputy in the Spain squad too."

The Sociedad midfielder recently spoke about his  future amid the links with Man City.

"There are always rumours but until now I've always thought that the best solution for me is staying at Real Sociedad," he told reporters, as per Goal.

"I've still a lot of things to give to this club, I still want to grow and develop here."
