OFFICIAL: Another star leaves Man City!

It has now been confirmed that yet another Manchester City player has left the club following Julian Alvarez's exit last week.

It has been announced that English midfielder Kalvin Phillips will spend the 2024/25 Premier League season on loan at newly promoted side Ipswich Town.

A statement by City on their offical website reads: "Kalvin Phillips has joined Ipswich Town on a season-long loan. The 28-year-old will spend the 2024/25 campaign at the newly promoted Premier League side.

"After signing from Leeds United in 2022, the midfielder was part of the City squad that earned the historic Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League Treble in his first season.

"He was then part of Pep Guardiola's matchday squad during the the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup success before spending the second half of last season on loan at West Ham United.

"Phillips returned to the Club this summer, playing in all four games on our recent tour of the United States of America.

"In total, he has made 31 appearances for City across all competitions, scoring once – a penalty in last December's Champions League win at Red Star Belgrade.

"Now he will spend the coming season at Portman Road as Ipswich play top-flight football for the first time since 2002.

"Everyone at Manchester City wishes Kalvin well during his time at Ipswich."

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the deal does not include an option to buy, with the playmaker now set to spend a second successive loan spell away from the Etihad after an underwhelming six-month stint at West Ham United last season.

Since completing a €49 million (R970 million) move from Leeds United to City in July 2022, Phillips has found game time extremely hard to come by, with the 28-year-old registering just over 900 minutes of action under coach Pep Guardiola.

In February 2024, Guardiola issued a belated public apology to the player for saying he was overweight upon his return from 2022 FIFA World Cup duty with England.

In an interview earlier in that month, Phillips had told The Guardian that his manager's comments had a big knock on his confidence.

The midfield star becomes City's sixth exit in this window following the departures of Alvarez, Sergio Gomez, Yan Couto, Tommy Doyle, and Taylor Harwood-Bellis.
