Lee Carsley, who was appointed as interim manager after Southgate's departure, has revealed that he will return to coaching the U21 side rather than the pursue the permanent role.
It is understood that ex-Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel agreed to become England's manager on Tuesday, however, quelling speculation that Guardiola is up for the job next.
The Soaniard's contract at Manchester City set to expire at the end of the current season, leading many to believe he could leave Manchester then, but he is now considering signing a 12-month extension instead, despite the recent approach from the English FA, according to the Daily Telegraph.
The former Barcelona coach recently admitted, while speaking on Italian TV show Che Tempo Che Fa, that reports suggesting he will be leaving the Citizens at the end of the season "is not true".
He further revealed that he had "not decided yet", before adding: "And it is not even true that I will be the next England coach. If I had decided I would say it... I don't know either, anything can happen."
However, it has also been suggested that while the 53-year-old is considering extending his stay at the Etihad, he is also interested in taking charge of a national team eventually.
The Spaniard is claimed to be keeping his options open, with no deadline being set for a decision, and while City would prefer a longer-term extension, it is said they would be happy with an extra 12 months with the former Barcelona boss.
Guardiola and his side, meanwhile, are thus far undefeated in the Premier League this season, picking up five wins from seven games.
