Pep decides Man City future amid financial fair play charges

Pep Guardiola has now confirmed a decision about his future at Manchester City amid a serious ongoing investigation into the club's financial dealings.

The newly crowned champions of England were earlier this year charged with more than 100 breaches of financial fair play rules, including the failure to provide accurate financial information that gives a fair view of the club's fiscal position between 2009/10 and 2017/18.

The decision was confirmed in February after a four-year probe, with the case being referred to an independent commission by the Premier League, after which the Citizens could face a multitude of possible punishments if found guilty, including a fine, expulsion from the league, a points deduction, or prevention from registering players.

The Manchester outfit have unequivocally denied the allegations, and the case is now pending at an undesired pace for City boss Guardiola.

The Spaniard, who remains adamant that his team is innocent, has now revealed he will stay at the Etihad despite the outcome of the investigation, with his contract set to expire in June 2025.

"I will stay next season," Guardiola said ahead of his men's trip to Brighton Hove Albion on Wednesday night, according to Sky Sports.

"I will stay. When 100 breaches from the Premier League against us, don't worry, we will be there."

With it possible the process could drag on for years, Guardiola added: "What I would like is for the Premier League, or the judges, to make [a decision] as soon as possible.

"Maybe we did something wrong, everyone will know it, and if we are like we believe we are, like we have done as a club for many years in the right way, then the people stop talking about that. We would love it tomorrow.

"Hopefully they are not so busy, and judges can see it and listen to both sides, and at the end decide what is the best. Because in the end I know firmly that what we won on the pitch we deserve it, I don't have any doubts.

"... We accept it is there. If it happens, it happens. So let's go. Come on, 24 hours, let's go, sit down, talk, both sides, lawyers present, don't wait one year, three years, why not do it quickly?

"Come on. As soon as possible, for the benefit of everyone. But I know there are many cases around the world, injustices. Hopefully we can do it as soon as possible."

It is believed that some Premier League clubs want the Citizens to be relegated if found guilty of nine years' worth of monetary misconduct, with the rest of the "Big Six" said to be pressing the hardest for strict action to be taken.

It is further claimed some EPL teams also feel that taking away the titles City won during that period would be meaningless and only cause confusion.
