Pep 'wants' €100m defender

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has now reportedly asked for the signing of a €100 million (R2 billion) defender.

The English giants look poised for a third successive Premier League title, which would make them only the second team to achieve this feat after rivals Manchester United, who completed a three-peat on two occasions, between 1999-2001 and 2007-2009.

With the Citizens arguably boasting the best squad in the English top flight already, it appears more depth will be added in central defence despite the club already having the likes of Aymeric Laporte, Ruben Dias, Manuel Akanji, Nathan Ake and John Stones in their ranks.

With Laporte heavily linked with a departure given his reduced role in the side this season, though, City are now said to be prepared to splash €100 million on RB Leipzig star Josko Gvardiol, according to Spanish publication Fichajes.

The Croatia international is one of the most sought-after talents in Europe after impressing in the Bundesliga as well as at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where he was instrumental in his country's second successive podium finish at the global showpiece.

The coveted 21-year-old has not shied away from speaking about his future, having previously revealed he would be open to playing in the Premier League after he was linked with both Liverpool and Chelsea in January.

It is claimed Leipzig are not willing to let him leave for anything below their €100 million asking price as there is no shortage of suitors for his signature, with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich also believed to be interested in securing his services.
