Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is now reportedly ready to spend a hefty £90 million (R2.1 billion) to sign an FC Barcelona star.
The Citizens have secured one signing so far in this window, having last week confirmed the arrival of Mateo Kovacic in a £25 million (R594 million) deal that could rise to £30 million (R713 million) with add-ons.

Guardiola seemingly wants more midfield reinforcements, though, with the team having also made a bid to sign Declan Rice from West Ham United before pulling out of the race for his signature.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the reigning Premier League champions have now turned their sights to Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
It is claimed Guardiola is a big fan of the Dutchman, and that City would be willing to spend up to £90 million to lure the player to the Etihad.
The Blaugrana are still in a financial hole of sorts, with their situation said to be requiring more outgoings than incomings.
As such, it is understood the Spanish giants would be tempted to consider a big offer for De Jong if one arrives.
Strengthening the midfield pivot position is reportedly a top priority for the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League winners following the void left by former club captain Ilkay Gundogan and the possibility of Bernardo Silva leaving the team.
