Impressive Brentford end Liverpool's winning run

Liverpool's top-four charge suffered a blow after losing 3-1 to Brentford in Monday night's Premier League action.

The Reds were without captain Jordan Henderson due to concussion, but he was replaced by Fabinho while Ibrahima Konate came in for Joel Matip in defence.

Bryan Mbeumo had the game's first chance after getting beyond the Liverpool, but the striker saw his close-range strike saved by goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

The Bees got the opener moments later when Mbeumo's in-swinging corner deflected in off Liverpool's Konate, with Becker unable to keep it out.

All the attacking came from the home side, as  Yoane Wissa had a goal disallowed at the midway point before the Bees striker saw another one of goal chalked off by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

Wissa would go on to double Brentford's lead three minutes before the interval with a towering header that was confirmed by the goal-line technology.

The Reds did manage to reduce the deficit five minutes after the break through Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's close-range header following Trent Alexander-Arnold's cross.

Liverpool were in the ascendancy and could have levelled matters on 69 minutes when Mohamed Salah played in Darwin Nunez, who was unable to find the target from close range.

The away side's hopes of getting back in the game were ended when Mbeumo managed to outmuscle Konate and placed the ball into the far corner to wrap up an impressive win.
