Manchester City began the defence of their Premier League title with a 3-0 victory away to newly-promoted Burnley on Friday night.
Citizens manager Pep Guardiola went with the regulars from last season, as new signings Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol started on the bench against Burnley, who gave a top-flight debut to South African striker Lyle Foster.
The defending champions needed just four minutes to find the breakthrough when Rodri nodded Kevin de Bruyne's into the path of Erling Haaland, who made no mistake from close range.
It was going the visitors' way until the midway point in the first half when De Bruyne's evening came to an end due to an injury, with Kovacic brought on as his replacement.
Despit De Bruyne's departure, City went onto double their lead in the 35th minute when a neat passing move ended with Julian Alvarez teeing up Haaland, who found the top corner with a superb finish.
Guardiola's charges continued from where they left off in the first half, with Rodrigo going close with a shot from distance that goalkeeper James Trafford managed to tip over the crossbar.
After struggling to mount an attempt on goal, Burnley coach Vincent Kompany opted for a double change after the hour mark as Morocco international Anass Zaroury and Jacob Bruun Larsen were introduced.
However, the visiting side got a third goal in the 76th minute when Burnley's failure to clear a free-kick in the box allowed Rodri to sneak in and fire home his first goal of the season.
That goal knocked the wind out of Burnley's sail as the reigning champions saw out the rest of the game with relative ease, while Burnley finished the game with a player less after Zaroury was sent off in stoppage time for a clumsy challenge on Kyle Walker.
City now turn their attention to Wednesday's UEFA Super Cup clash against Sevilla, before they face Newcastle United next week.
