Chelsea moved back into the top four on the Premier League table with a 1-0 victory over London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday night.
The Blues were boosted by the return of Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson following the loss to Arsenal before the international break.
The clash got off to a fiery start as Jackson nearly marked his return with a goal after Micky van de Ven's clearance ricocheted off the Blues strike and sailed against the upright.
Spurs, meanwhile, struggled to get their foot on the ball in the first and were relying on catching the Blues on the counter, however they let themselves down with the final on more than one occasion.
The Blues did go close to pulling themselves ahead on the stroke of halftime, as Pedro Neto picked out Jadon Sancho at the far post but the latter saw his volley brilliantly tipped away by Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.
Five minutes into the second period, the Blues broke the deadlock as when Enzo Fernandez bagged his fifth league goal of the season by nodding home a well-weighted cross from Palmer.
The visitors thought they had levelled matters in the 69th minute through Pape Matar Sarr's long-range strike, but the celebrations were cut short after the referee overturned the decision following a foul on Moises Caicedo in the build-up.
Chelsea were able to see out the closing stages of the second, with goalkeeper Robert Sanchez producing a superb save in second-half stoppage time to deny Son an equaliser.
