Arsenal made it two wins from two matches in the Premier League after defeating Crystal Palace 1-0 at Selhurst Park on Monday evening.
Following Jurrien Timber's absence through injury, the Gunners handed a start to Takehiro Tomiyasu, while recently acquired goalkeeper David Raya on the bench.
Arsenal had the best opening on the half-hour mark as Eddie Nketiah leaned to the shoulder of the area before holding off a challenge and rattling the upright.
Nketiah had a chance to make amends with an inter-change of passes with Declan Rice, but he steered well over from a very acute angle as halftime loomed large.
Arsenal were on the prowl again minutes later and saw a sumptuous attempt outside the area by Martin Odegaard force a remarkable one-hand palm from Palace goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.
Mikel Arteta's side won a penalty five minutes in the second half after Nketiah beat Johnstone to a long pass before going down, which allowed Odegaard to step up and convert from the penalty spot.
The Gunners went in search of a second goal through a first-time shot from the cusp of the area by Thomas Partey ten minutes later, but Johnstone managed to turn it behind.
However, Arsenal were down to ten men midway in the second half when Tomiyasu was sent packing for a second bookable offence after bringing down Jordan Ayew.
Arteta soon thereafter took off Gabriel Martinelli to bring on Gabriel Magalhaes, before the Eagles had a penalty appeal turned away after Eberechi Eze went down in the area.
Despite sufficient box-entries in the latter minutes, the Eagles couldn't breakdown the Gunners who managed to hold onto their lead and recorded back-to-back league victories.
