Man Utd drop points in Amorim's first game in charge

Manchester United drew 1-1 with Ipswich Town in new coach Ruben Amorim's first game in charge on Sunday evening.

Christian Eriksen, Jonny Evans and Alejandro Garnacho were recalled by Amorim, as Rasmus Hojlund, Manuel Ugarte and Lisandro Martinez dropped out.

It was the perfect start on two minutes where Marcus Rashford entered in front of the defence to meet Amad Diallo's cutback and tucked in for the opener.

Garnacho seek to get another from a one-two with Bruno Fernandes moments gone, but went over having done a lot of spade work to find a perfect angle.

Going behind didn't seem to fazed the host who gradually grew in confidence as the half played out and entered towards the interval.

Thus, Omari Hutchinson managed to take aim from a layoff by Wes Burns to side-step Carlos Casemiro to riffle in the top corner just before the break.

Manchester looked keen to yet another quick start after halftime when Fernandes set-up Garnacho for a point-blank effort, but he was repelled on this occasion.

Amorim pulled on a double substitution ten minutes from the break in Ugarte for Casemiro in a like-for-like switch before the returning Luke Shaw came in for Evans.

Ipswich were keen to hold their own against the fancied visitors, as Hutchinson looked to grab a brace with a speculative strike from way out but fluffed his lines.

At the other end, the Red Devils enjoyed moments too when a free-kick by Fernandes a few yards from the area narrowly shaved the far post.

Neither side were able to get the winner ahead of the full-time whistle and left the spoils shared, with United languishing in 12th spot to the host in 18th position.
