In-form Rashford keeps Man Utd in title hunt

Marcus Rashford continued his fine form for Manchester United, who defeated Leeds United 2-0 at Elland Road on Sunday evening.

After coming off the bench and inspiring the Red Devils to a draw in midweek, Jadon Sancho earned a first start since October alongside recalls for Harry Maguire and Tyrell Malacia.

Leeds forward Patrick Bamford, who starred in the reverse fixture days ago, threatened from a smart effort following a lofted ball but goalkeeper David De Gea parried.

Manchester began to show up following the difficult opening and watched Bruno Fernandes grab Sancho's delivery and slammed across the face of goal.

In an even final minutes to of halftime, the Red Devils carved another scare where Fernandes stormed in off a surging run and drew Illan Meslier to a save through a close-range strike.

Leeds pushed their counterparts to the edge after the break and a low curler outside the box by Crysencio Summerville forced De Gea to go down and parry for a corner-kick.

The encouraging opening from the Peacocks continued as Jack Harrison guided a knockdown from Bamford on the right of the box wide following mis-placed possession by Maguire.

Manchester introduced a double change on 61 minutes in Lisandro Martinez for Tyrell Malacia and sacrificed Sancho to bring on Alejandro Garnacho.

It was a telling impact from the latter two minutes from coming on when his cross to the area from the right found Diogo Dalot, who rattled the woodwork with a strike from the edge of the box.

The Red Devils broke the deadlock inside the last nine minutes after Marcus Rashford found space in the area and headed in Shaw's cross, with a Video Assistant Review (VAR) giving the strike the all clear.

The Red Devils made the points safe five minutes from time as Garnacho bombed down the left of the area and tucked in off the inside post.

The visitors had two efforts disallowed in added time from Rashford's shot in behind and a point-blank finish from Wout Weghorst, but it didn't matter as they claimed a 2-0 win to go second on the table.
