Chelsea returned to winning ways in the Premier League following a 2-1 win over Leicester City on Saturday afternoon.
After the FIFA break, Chelsea were boosted by the return of Enzo Fernandez and Joao Felix, who joined Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson in attack.
The Blues had a perfect start after Jackson gave them the lead on 15 minutes with a finish using the outside of his boot after he went through from a ricochet in the box.
Enzo Maresca's charges took their time on the ball but on the half-hour mark Madueke came close to doubling their lead with a strike from the edge of the box that stretched goalkeeper Mads Hermansen across his goal to make a save.
Leicester attacked with more numbers towards the end of the first stanza but they were nearly punished on a counter-attack after Madueke latched onto a cross by Jackson on the far side but his volley missed narrowly wide.
The visitors had a bright start in the second stanza as ten minutes from the interval they should have been 2-0 up after Palmer's shot towards a gaping net at the back post was blocked unintentionally by Madueke, who was on the way.
Even though The Foxes were not creating chances, they were still in the game and with 20 minutes to go, Steve Cooper made an attacking and tactical change as Wilfred Ndidi made way for Jordan Ayew.
However, Chelsea eventually put the game to bed five minutes later after Fernandez capitalized on a rebound with a strike past the helpless Hermansen, who had just saved a header from Jackson.
Maresca did not want his team to take their foot off the pedal with nine minutes to go after Christopher Nkunku replaced Felix up top.
Cooper's troops came to life in the dying minutes and Ayew pulled a goal back in added time from a penalty that was awarded after a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review spotted a foul on Bobby De Cordova-Reid in the box.
However, it was too little too late for Leicester, as Chelsea consolidated third spot in the standings.
