Liverpool thrash Leicester to close gap on Man Utd

Liverpool moved to within a point of fourth-placed Manchester United after defeating Leicester City 3-0 on Monday night.

Jordan Henderson and Luis Diaz were recalled tot he Liverpool starting line-up in place of Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez, while Johnny Evans and Wilfred Ndidi returned for the home side.

The Foxes looked lively from the onset as they aimed to get on the front foot early on, but the Reds defence were keeping a close eye on Jamie Vardy and Harvey Barnes.

The Reds broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute when Curtis Jones ran onto a well-weighted cross by Mohamed Salah and poked the ball beyond goalkeeper Daniel Iversen.

The lead was doubled two minutes later, with Jones completing his brace with a powerful finish into the far corner after being played in by Salah once again.

Leicester came out for the second half with a bit more intent in their attack and they went close six minutes after break when Barnes saw his curling effort tipped away by Reds goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

Liverpool, however, silenced the home crowd in the 70th minute as Trent Alexander-Arnold found the back of the net with a superb strike after being set up by Salah's back-heel.

Salah had a big chance to get a goal to go with his three assist he as left one-on-one with Iverson on 80 minutes, but the Liverpool failed to hit the target.

That proved to be the final clear-cut opening at goal for the visitors, who are point behind the top four with two matches to play while the Red Devils still have a game in hand.
