Spurs halt Man City's Premier League title push

Harry Kane's record-breaking goal guided Tottenham Hotspur a 1-0 win over Premier League champions Manchester City on Sunday evening.

Spurs were without manager Antonio Conte on the touchline following his operation, while City welcomed back Kyle Walker, Nathan Ake, Bernardo Silva and Ederson from the FA Cup win over Arsenal.

The Citizens were caught playing out from the back 15 minutes in, which allowed Harry Kane to find space and fire into the bottom-corner to become the club's all-time top scorer ahead of Jimmy Greaves.

City's first shot in anger arrived soon after as Rodri Hernandez made a yard of space on the edge of the area and drew a save out of goalkeeper Hugo Lloris with a low curler.

The Citizens edged ever closer to the leveller on the brink of halftime after Riyad Mahrez brought a surging ball to the back-post under control and fired off the underside of the crossbar.

Spurs were keen to add onto their lead and came close over ten minutes into the second half when Ben Davies charged in at the near post of the area to nod wide off Ivan Perisic's corner.

At this point, the reigning champions went for changes and withdrew Algerian Mahrez for the talisman and midfield maestro Kevin De Bruyne.

The host still enjoyed the momentum and went close again a few minutes later after Kane stepped inside of Mnauel Akanji before Ederson rushed out and thwarted the Spurs striker.

In an end-to-end final four minutes, Spurs finished were reduced to ten players as Cristian Romero committed a foul on Jack Grealish and saw red following a second booking.

City looked to make use of their one man advantage seconds to full-time, but couldn't get beyond the defence and had to settle for a defeat.
